"Triple A" software tester for wind turbine design

ECN is coordinator of the EU project AVATAR (Advanced Aerodynamic Tools of Large Rotors). Within AVATAR advanced and accurate software is developed for design of large wind turbines with diameters exceeding 200 meter. Before releasing the software many test calculations need to be performed based on various different load cases. To perform these simulations and check the corresponding results under supervision of experienced ECN employees, ECN is urgently seeking an enthusiastic student mechanical/aerospace engineering or applied computer science (HBO or university of applied science bachelor level) for an internship. 

A strong preference exists for a hands-on attitude together with programming skills (e.g. Matlab) and an interest in aerodynamic modeling of wind turbines. The assignment can be extended with a comparative study between high fidelity and 'engineering' aerodynamic models, with the purpose of refining the latter models. 

Duration: 4 months (deviation is possible in mutual consultation). Start date: 1 March 2015
